What is private AI?
It's an AI assistant — like the chat tools you may have tried online — except it runs on a computer at your location. We use well-established open-source software (Ollama and Open WebUI) and AI models that run fully on the machine.
Does my data ever leave my office or home?
No. Your questions, documents, and answers are stored on the machine in your building. We don't connect it to cloud AI services. If you choose an off-site backup, we only do that with your written OK.
Can JLH see my information?
We only access your system to do support and maintenance, and only with your permission. Our monitoring looks at system health (like whether it's running and backed up), not your documents or chats.
Is it as good as the big online AI tools?
For everyday work — writing, summarizing, and answering questions about your documents — today's local models do a very good job, and they keep getting better. The biggest cloud models can still be stronger at some tasks. We'll be honest with you about what to expect before you buy.
What hardware do I need?
We supply it. Businesses typically get a Mac mini M5 Pro with 64 GB of memory or, for bigger teams and libraries, a Mac Studio M5 Max with 128 GB. Homes typically get a current Mac mini. You own the hardware once it's paid for.
Can it answer questions about my own files?
Yes. We load the documents you pick so you can ask things like "What's our refund policy?" or "Summarize the Smith file." On Standard and Premium plans, we re-index new documents every month.
Does it work if the internet goes down?
Yes, everyday use inside your building keeps working, since the AI runs locally. Remote access and our monitoring need internet.
Can I use it from my phone or away from the office?
Yes. We can set up secure remote access so you and your team can use it from approved devices — without opening your network to the internet.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the size of your setup. Business systems include hardware, a one-time setup, and a monthly care plan. Home systems start with an affordable setup and low monthly plans, with a discount for JLH internet customers. email us for a written quote.
